Mental Health Services

Psychotherapy (In Person)
The process usually begins with an initial assessment. In early sessions, the psychologist asks about your history, current challenges, and goals. Together, you define what you want to work on. From there, sessions typically occur regularly (often weekly), each lasting about 55 minutes.
Different psychologists may use different approaches depending on your needs. For example:
-
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.
-
Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns influence current behavior.
-
Humanistic or person-centered therapy emphasizes self-exploration, personal growth, and self-acceptance.

Psychotherapy (Telehealth)
Over time, therapy can lead to increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, better decision-making, and healthier relationships. The pace and length of therapy vary—some people attend for a few months, while others continue longer depending on their goals.
During sessions, the psychologist may:
-
Ask guided questions to help you reflect more deeply
-
Teach coping strategies or skills,
managing anxiety or regulating emotions
-
Help you identify patterns in relationships or thinking
-
Offer feedback and new perspectives
-
Occasionally suggest exercises or “homework” to practice between sessions

Couples Therapy
Gottman Couples Therapy is a structured, research-based form of relationship counseling developed by John Gottman, MD, and Julie Schwartz Gottman, PhD. Their approach focuses on helping couples improve communication, manage conflict, and
strengthen emotional connection.
In simple terms: it teaches partners how to reduce harmful patterns (like criticism or defensiveness), build respect and affection, and handle disagreements in healthier, more constructive ways using practical tools and exercises.

Child Psychotherapy
In a child therapy session, a trained therapist helps a child express feelings, understand experiences, and build coping skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Instead of just talking, sessions often involve play, drawing, games, or storytelling—since children communicate best through activities.
The therapist observes how the child expresses emotions, gently guides conversations, and teaches skills like managing feelings, solving problems,
or handling difficult situations.
Parents are often included periodically to share updates and learn how to support the child at home.

Adolescent Psychotherapy
In an adolescent mental health session, a therapist meets one-on-one with a teen to talk through their thoughts, feelings, and challenges in a private, supportive space. Sessions usually involve open conversation,
along with some guided questions or activities to help the teen understand themselves better, manage emotions,
and build coping and
problem-solving skills.
The therapist may also check in on things like school, friendships, and family life. Parents are sometimes involved for updates or support, but the teen’s privacy is generally respected to help them feel comfortable opening up.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is a type of counseling where family members meet together with a therapist to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and
strengthen relationships.
Sessions focus on how family members interact, helping them understand each other’s perspectives, break unhelpful patterns, and work together to create a healthier, more supportive family dynamic.
Who do we see? Families transitioning through divorce, adult siblings,
adult children and parents,
extended family members.
